Join Dr. David Hill, for Know Before You Go (KBYG) β a free, introduction to avalanche awareness and safe mountain travel. The presentation will last about 1β1.5 hours, with plenty of time for questions. This is a FREE event, and everyone is welcome to join!
This engaging presentation is designed for anyone who spends time in the backcountry during winter β from beginners to seasoned adventurers. Youβll learn the basics of:

- Some causes of avalanches
- What resources are available to you
- How to minimize risk
No heavy science, no scare tactics, and no formulas to memorize β just straightforward information to help you make smarter decisions in avalanche terrain.
Whether youβre new to the backcountry or a seasoned backcountry traveler, KBYG offers fresh insights and reminders to keep your skills sharp for the season ahead!
The University of Oregon Outdoor Program will raffle off some items, and Eugene Mountain Rescue will speak briefly about rescue services in the Cascades.
