COAC Seeks New Board Members

COAC Seeks New Board Members

Background

The Central Oregon Avalanche Center (COAC) empowers the backcountry community to make informed decisions by providing avalanche forecasting, observations, and education. COAC is a community funded non-profit founded in 2009, we provide public backcountry avalanche forecasts for the Central Cascades and Newberry Crater National Monument, host educational workshops, and avalanche rescue training.

Opportunity

The COAC board is seeking two to four new members to provide leadership in support of COAC’s mission. The COAC Board of Directors is composed of volunteers who serve two-year terms.

Ideal candidates will bring insights, energy, and passion for COAC’s work and represent Central Oregon’s diverse backcountry community. Enthusiasm for COAC’s mission is a prerequisite for success but no formal or professional backcountry experience is required.

We encourage all interested candidates to apply, especially those with the desired skills and experience below:

  • Expertise in development and fundraising for non-profits.
  • Expertise in marketing, social media, and membership engagement.

We recognize that the current COAC board does not reflect the diversity of the Central Oregon backcountry community and we strongly encourage women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ individuals to apply.

COAC is a small organization with a working board that takes on many of the responsibilities for day to day operations. Board members are expected to:

  • Participate in monthly in-person (or virtual) board meetings
  • Provide counsel to COAC staff
  • Plan and implement COAC events (i.e. BendSAW, Vertfest, Freshtracks)
  • Undertake projects that further COAC's mission
  • Participate in COAC events.
  • Make COAC a personally meaningful part of their individual philanthropy.

The average time commitment for our volunteer board members is around 10 hours per month, but varies depending on role.
