Location:
Tumalo Mountain

3:15pm we skinned up an unmarked path up Tumalo Mountain. The snow was very light and dry. There was about 2-4” of dry loose snow with beautiful, faceted snowflakes. Some areas had a light gram cracker crunch underfoot, but still felt like dust on crust and very stable. At the top at 4:00pm my thermometer read the outside temp as 20*f. There was 5-6” of wind loaded snow on the north side of trees and wind lips. No signs of avalanche activity or shooting cracks on any aspect. Sunlight and blue sky breaks between dark snow clouds put on a good show. It was a beautiful day and excellent descent.
