Toured up past the North aspect of Ball Butte with intentions of finding good snow and a ridable line at Broken Top. Surveying the East and Northeast facing aspects of Broken Top we found numerous past avalanche activity on some of the steeper slopes from the day before or 2 days prior on almost all East and Northeast facing slopes. There were visible crowns at or above the 8500' marks of the faces with large debris fields with runouts all the way to the base of the faces. We opted to avoid the area completely from the obvious instability and surprising lack of snow on the ridges, exposed rocks and debris fields.
