Around 5 pm we got to the top of Tumalo and observed that a split boarder had gotten too close to the edge and consequently dropped a bus sized cornice. The break was about 10 feet back from the edge. Location was skiers right of the bowl near the motorized use boundary. The rider and cornice fell onto the slope below. The cornice broke into big chunks and entrained the snow around it to slide down to the base of the slope, a common transition zone. There were chunks the size of small cars at the bottom. The rider was shaken but otherwise un injured.
We skied to the left of the middle rocks and the conditions were glorious.
