This event will run from 10:00am-2:00pm with tables and booths available to visit throughout the day, and avalanche burial scenario drills running at 11:00am and 1:00pm.
Our day will start out with a meet and greet over Thump coffee from 10:00am – 11:00am. Get caffeinated and find some new backcountry ski and/or splitboard partners! Women of Deschutes County Search & Rescue (SAR), Oregon Ski Guides, and Central Oregon Avalanche Center will all have booths so that you can find out about upcoming events, sign up for an Avalanche Education course or find out more about SAR. We are also lucky to have Between Evergreens there to wax skis/splitboards while you get your meet and greet on! Tables and booths will be available for attendees and the general public to visit throughout the day.
At 11:00am and 1:00pm, we will be running practice beacon drills facilitated by the Women of Deschutes County Search and Rescue. We will walk you through a burial scenario from start to finish (coarse and fine search, probing and shoveling), and then you will have an opportunity to practice the skills! Please note: if you are signing up for beacon drills, you need to bring a beacon, shovel and probe. Ideally, each participant should have their touring pack, ski/split boots, and skis or splitboard to practice rescue scenarios in real-time conditions. We will run two sessions of rescues with a total 20 people per session.
We will have a sweet prize drawing full of prizes around 12:30pm. Make sure you grab your prize drawing tickets early at the event. A HUGE THANK YOU to our partners donating goodies for the raffle: Thump Coffee, Trew, Karakoram, Mountain Supply, Crow’s Feet, and Oregon Ski Guides!
Cost: while the general event with tables and booths is free to attend, if you would like to participate in the beacon drills, the cost will be $20/person.
